sweatshop

A sweatshop is a workplace where workers are subject to extreme exploitation, including the absence of a living wage or benefits, poor working conditions, and arbitrary discipline, such as verbal and physical abuse. (from veganpeace.com)

the pic below is not a typical sweatshop, sebab they are not subjected to any exploitation or abuse. they are just child labours appointed by me!

actually this afternoon i got so annoyed with this senior admins lady at the office, memang makcik ni kekwat/kalut sikit (waah pandai jugak ku menggunakan bahasa melayu macam remaja zaman sekarang - kiranya takde lah outdated sangat.).

she was going on & on about my delay in finalising the exam questions. konon nya she got into trouble for defending me when the registrar lady bising2 dapat question lambat. dia kata dia banyak kerja lagi nak buat dari nak defend kita orang ni. i got so annoyed & snapped at her "you think you are the only person in here who's got so many things to do?" dah ramai orang irritated dengan dia especially the academics, maybe i'm one of the last few yang tak cakap banyak selama ni. and i've not lost my cool for ages...

then dia bising pasal 160 drawings yang nak kena lipat for the exam. i told her the drawings dah printed, tinggal nak gi ambik from print shop aja. so i went to the print shop to collect the drawings, then i was on all 4, lipat drawing kat corner in the admins office. lepas tu terhegeh2 datang nak ambik drawing to fold at her place. i said to her "leave the drawings alone.. i'll get them folded tonite and bring them to you tomorrow". dia ambik jugak sikit, dah termalu agaknya sebab semua orang dengar. haaa... dah lama cikgu bedah tak mengamok! the best part was, my team leader came in & asked casually, "what has become of you?"  i answered "jane of all trades". then dia pesan "be careful when folding the drawings, dont get paper cuts". relax laa... i've folded drawings many times before - first task when i started work as assistant QS cabok lepas diploma dulu2.  i worked my way up, bukan nya keluar2 college terus  jadi boss, unlike budak2 sekarang. takde bendanya kalau setakat a piece of diploma or degree tu.. dah kerja bertahun tahun and prove my worth baru la boleh nak eksyen sikit. those who knew me/worked with me since early 90s would know what i was like during my hey days and how i mellowed down a lot after i had my first baby in late 90s.

i took about 80 drawings home, asked lauren & aisyah if they wanted to earn some money... i showed them how to fold the drawings, upahnya 5p per sheet, took them less than 1 minute to fold one sheet. after 1/2 hour, aisyah earned £2.30 and lauren £1.70. not bad kan???? tak kisah lah tak neat sangat pun, janji dah lipat... thanks girls!
