Yorkshire Sculpture Park

last Thursday both of us took the day off (mummy doesn't teach on Thursdays now) and took the kids to YSP near Wakefield, about 1 hour drive away. I've been wanting to go there after my colleague Ruth went last year & told me about it.

the park is located in the 500 acre Bretton Estate and there are about 60 sculptures in the open air at any one time. over 3 hours, we managed to cover only 1/2 of the area and seen 1/2 of the sculptures

"The Family of Man" by Barbara Hepworth

Aluminium Structure of  "Molecules Man 1+1+1"  by Jonathan Borofsky

Wooden "Horse is a noble animal" by Marcia Farquhar

"Playground" by Greyworld UK
"10 Seated Figures" by Magdalena Abakanowicz
Trees from Landscape Alternative Components by David Oppenheim
 the promenade by Anthony Caro
Sitting by Sophie Ryder. Aliyah called this "Human Rabbit"
 Spiegelei by Jem Finer
Spiegelei & Promenade with Bretton Hall on the background
seventy one steps by David Nash
and we had lunch at the top, in the  freezing cold.
Pointed Oval - one of my favourite  sculptures by Henry Moore. the last time i saw this was at Burrell Collection/Pollok Park, Glasgow in 1990 with my friend & neighbour, Catherine who introduced me to sculptures and arty stuff

on the way home, we stopped in Sheffield to see Raudhah and took her out for a meal at Nando's.

Flower Painting

last week was mid term break; Monday is inset day for infant & junior schools and since mummy has classes, daddy had to take the day off to look after lil missy.

apparently she spilt some food (or drink) on the table while her eyes were glued to the telly. and this was not the first time she did it. her defence would be "It was an accident" and I could imagine the tears flowing down her cheeks. so daddy sudah  marah & came out with THE ULTIMATE RULES

- no food (except fruits) in the living room
- no "aliyah's tv"
- no toys
- she's only allowed to read, paint, play piano in the living room
- she has to read 20 pages of her school book per day after school, under kakak's supervision. not just baca but kena faham story line. her teacher gives 3 books to read per week now and they are proper story books; some are 80 pages thick.
best part is, "if adik doesn't read 20 pages/day then kakak cannot go to her weekly riding."

entah berapa hari lah boleh bertahan tu.  from past experience, daddy would give in after a few good days.

so bila dah tak boleh tengok tv, tak boleh main toys, she did some painting, copied from the book "50 things to draw & paint"

ini lah hasil nya. not bad kan?

walimatus urus

one of my closest friends is tying the knot, Alhamdulillah..tu lah orang kata, jodoh pertemuan, ajal maut ditangan Tuhan. cepat atau lambat sampainya jodoh tu, siapalah kita yang nak tentukan semua tu. kita ni manusia hanya merancang, Tuhan yang menentukan.

bakal pengantin baru (centre seated) yang wajah berseri seri having lunch with old friends to distribute invitation card. saya sangat jeles!! she was among my closest friends who attended our wedding in Kelantan 15 years ago.  wish i'm back in msia now to attend hers.

God bless you my dear friend Ida..hope you will find all the happiness in life with your chosen one. for as long as you  remember that "he is your soulmate, your best friend, your companion", then you will be fine..

so, sesiapa yang belum bertemu jodoh lagi even though at a later age in life, never say never..and to parents and org disekeliling yang sibok2 suruh kawin or banyak2 tanya apasal  belum kawin lagi even though baru je in mid 20s or dah masuk 30 or 40 carat club, jangan pandang serong or banyak soal. selagi jodoh belum sampai, don't you dare say anything okay!

I  ni memang sensitive bila orang bising2 pasal apa masih single even though umur dah menjejak 30 atau 40 tahun.  I've been there and I know how it felt. but just pegang pada prinsip "GOOD THINGS/PEOPLE COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT...PATIENTLY" . "good" is so subjective. baik pada pandangan kita, mungkin tidak pada orang lain. tapi pokok pangkal nya, its our choice. so, when the right one comes along after a long wait and we have done our part of "istiqarah", then he/she is the best person for us.

so mana2 kengkawan  and sedara mara yang masih single tu, ingat nasihat pakar!!

ode to sushi

I curi this from my sis in law, yati samad-fadzil (encik suami's youngest sister)'s fb post.. sorry cik noti, tak mintak permisi dulu..

she made a huge sushi spread for her family; her second daughter mimi loves sushi so much that she wants sushi instead of a cake for her birthday.. I would too!

and she penned this too..

Ode to Sushi
Oh sushi, how I love thee,
When you are fresh and tasty,
You melt in my mouth softly.
...

When bought from the supermarket,
You suck and taste rubbery,
And waste my money...

now u know why my encik suami is a better cook & writer than me...
