tex mex dinner

kakak made this at school yesterday in her DT (design tech) subject.

this year they learn to cook world food. last week it was (italian) pizza and this week its mexican - tortilla with kidney beans chili minced filling. it was really good and all of us had it for dinner with side salad. mummy gantung apron last nite..

7am delivery

few minutes past 7am today, the door bell went "ting tong"..and these came for little missy.

after the heavy rain on friday, Alhamdulillah for the sunny & dry Saturday, perfect for the farm birthday party.

we & our guests arrived at the farm at 12.30pm, met by Jess the tour guide who's been wonderful with the kids. first 2 hours was spent going round the farm feeding the animals, into the reptile house to stroke tortoise and snake, then off to pet furry baby animals - the guinea pigs, mice, baby chick followed by a pantomime and the kids took part as the farm animals. 2.45pm, kids & adults were taken to the party room for food and birthday cake and we packed up and left at 3.45pm.

this is the first party we had for the kids where i didnt have to tire myself out with decorating, preparing food and party games. i ordered vege nuggets, cheese sandwiches, chips, crisps and icecream for the kids and vegetable platter & chips for the adults plus some chicken nuggets & sausages which i brought from home.

simple & sweet and yummylicious cake ordered online from Birds.

kids (and adults) had good fun. the parents said we set such a high standard for a birthday party, penat kena pikir where to have for their children's next party - alton towers? disneyland? hehe..they were surprised to know that the rate is just the same as having the parties indoor at the jungle gyms.

our verdict? Good value for money. it was worth every penny & it certainly was a party to remember.

saw this store Home Sense http://www.homesense.com at the Retail Park, nampak macam menarik and went in. true enough, the household items are really nice, 60% off regular retail price. it is infact kedai adik beradik my peberet shop. patutla price tags and barang2 dalam kedai pun sama.

i was eye-ing for a nice arm chair, tunggu lah dulu bila ekonomi dah reda sikit, kita beli sebijik.

kenit santai-ing on the new bean bag which we bought at home sense.. rasa2 nya kazen saya nik dy mesti suka pegi kedai ni untuk rumah dia yang baru direnovate..

we bought this whole box for £7 at the car boot last year and kenit loves it. they dont do these anymore, dont know why.
semalam hari kemas store, found the box hidden among boxes, took it in and when she woke up this morning, terus made some 3D objects.

cuti oh cuti..

heyyyy...org malaya cuti lagi???? baru je lepas cuti New Year omputih, ni dapat long weekend lagi for Tahun Baru Cina, then followed by Hari Wilayah (1/2), Maulud Nabi (5/2) and Thaipusam (7/2).. berapa banyak cuti daaaa..berapa hari je kerja sebulan??
we had our week long break from xmas to new year, the next one will be easter break in April for 4 days from good friday to easter monday (uni bagi 1 day extra on tuesday). thats 3 months apart! tapi apa2 pun,  our easter break is sorted and accommodation booked.

next month the kids will be on one week mid term break and we are so grateful to Gill who offered to come  all the way from Winchester to stay the whole week to look after the kids while both of us are at work. Gill dah planned what to do/where to take the girls while she's here and the kids love her company.

for the past week, every morning bila bangun tidor she would check on her i-pod how many days to her birthday.
this year we decided to 'splurge' on her, ye lah, kesian tak pernah buat proper birthday party yang jemput kawan2. we looked around for venue and found a rather interesting one - at white post farm, about half hour drive outside notts.

she prepared the guests list, distributed the invitation cards last monday and i've received confirmation from parents who told us that their kids are looking forward to the day out.  mummy is not preparing anything, semua food & party pack order from the farm, tempah birthday cake from our neighbourhood shop.

i hope weather ok, as long as tak hujan, kalau sejuk just wrap up warm. tak payah pakai party dress, cukup dengan jeans, jumper, outdoor jacket and wellies.

makcik kantin opened her cafe early this morning sebab kena keluar rumah before 8am for the 9am class. boring betul ada kelas yang tak pasal2 ni.

yesterday i had cruncy carrot hummus sandwiches at work, sedap pulak. so i stopped at Waitrose on the way home and bought 3 different varieties of hummus and made sandwiches for today's lunch.

something fishy happened on Monday..
i had Fish n Chips (leftover from Sunday lunch bought at Bakewell Fish n Chips) for lunch

i cooked Kari Kepala Ikan Salmon for dinner. we bought a whole salmon in the new year at half price, which cost £10, boleh sliced to 5-6 pieces.

simpan for few days, makan dengan roti canai pulak...

we've been to Bakewell and Monsal Dale countless times but it never stopped us from going there again..

we welcomed the new year with 2 young guests - Aida, my cousin's daughter who's reading law at Reading Uni and Sarah, our close friends Naza & Meor's eldest daughter who's here on holiday after SPM. Sarah was infact one of the flower girls at our wedding reception in 1998.
Aida and Sarah sempat spent time together a nite before  Aida went back to Reading. it was good for them to meet and know each other cos Sarah plans to read law after A Level. Aida gave her some insights of the course.

we didnt get to take Aida out much except for a walk at Wollaton Park cos we were still busy settling in but we hope she will come back to visit and stay a bit longer.

Sarah was here for a week and she's had a relaxing break - went running in the Park few mornings, went out shopping all by herself and on some days just stayed in.

on Sunday, a day before leaving for home, we took Sarah to the countryside - Bakewell and Monsal Dale. she loved Bakewell Pudding and i bought 2 for her to take home for her mom.

and she said Monsal Dale is something like in the movies Merlin and PS I Love U. 

glad they felt at home in our humble place and enjoyed their stay..
