Cove & Falls

on friday before i left the office, i asked for my colleagues' recommendations for places to go walking (with the kids) in Yorkshire Dale. we've been planning to go to Aysgarth Falls in Wensleydale for quite sometime, but Andy & Alan (both are avid walkers) suggested that we go to Wharferdale and Malham Cove

we left home at 8.30, filled petrol and bought drinks and snacks and hit M1 at 9am, arrived at Malham village at 11.30am. parking area at Yorkshire Dale National Park Centre was full despite 'white cloudy' & and windy day but we got a bit of sunny spells in the afternoon. walked about 3/4 mile fr the village to Malham Cove, spectacular ampitheatre limestone rock, which is featured in  Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows; see http://www.malhamdale.com/cove.htm.

we left Malham at 2pm and drove to Aysgarth Falls which is 26 miles away and should take 45 minutes on B6160 road via Kettlewell but somehow the sat nav took us on the small and winding road with hadrian rubble walls borders  through the Yorkshire Dale National Park and we only got to Aysgarth Falls at 3.30pm... but anyway, we got to see the rolling hills of the dales, just like in The Sound of Music.

watch out! 'mutton' crossing the road..

Aysgarth Falls is known for the triple flight waterfalls, featured in Kevin Costner's Robin Hood, the Prince of Thieves film. http://www.wensleydale.org/villages/aysgarth.html .  we had a good walk in the woods to get to the falls..

we left at 5.30pm, stopped at MC Donalds,  Leeming Bar to get our dinner, left at 6.30pm and got home at 9pm..ahhh fresh air really has great effect on all.. we will definitely go to yorkshire dale again some time in the future, and next time probably spend 2-3 days instead of just a day trip. we went to Yorkshire coast in summer 2009 but i think the dales are so much better...

and i'm counting the weeks before our next break
