preparing for our upcoming holiday.. going to wales is like going to a foreign country. the welsh are really proud of their language, like the highland scots with gaelic. the kids learn cymraeg and gaelic at school and i think its a good thing.
its really important that our younger generation know how to speak in their mothers' tongue. now i'm teaching aliyah bit by bit how to speak in malay. aisyah's malay is ok, she goes to kafa class on saturdays where they also teach Bahasa Melayu to the kids.
in wales and scottish highlands, all signboards & names of places are written in 2 languages. welsh has extra alphabets - dd, ff,ll and they pronounce certain alphabets differently. i've looked at bbc welsh website to learn a few words, so that i know how to pronounce the name of places correctly, enough to get by. the most hilarious one that made me & aisyah laugh is ... moron is carrot in welsh!!

this is a village in Anglesey, North Wales which has the longest name in the UK. the name is abbreviated to Llanfair PG or Llanfairpwll (pronounced as ch(as in loch)an-vair-puch). its a popular tourist attraction and people would go to the train station to get their pic taken.
